May 13th 1939
At the annual NHL Board of Governors meeting, Boston's Art Ross submitted for consideration a new type of hockey stick with a metal handle and replaceable wooden blade. This came nearly 50 years before the modern-era aluminum stick.
May 13, 1971
Goaltender Tony Esposito recorded his second career playoff shutout in the Black Hawks' 2-0 playoff win over Montreal at Chicago Stadium, in Game Five of the 1971 Stanley Cup Finals.

May 13, 1933

The NHL Board of Governors held their annual meeting, where it was decided to lower the league salary cap from $70,000 to $65,000 per team for the 1933-34 NHL season.
